What You Need to Know About Sunscreen
Sunscreen is amazing, and it's vital to skin health. Most sunscreens protect your skin from the sun's harmful UVA and UVB rays, and many sunscreens now double as moisturizers, makeup foundation, and more.
You should make a habit of applying sunscreen - SPF 30 or higher - every day. We also highly recommend using a sunscreen that offers Broad Spectrum UVA/UVB protection, as well as one that is water resistant (sweat is water, too!).

What is Infrared (IR) radiation, and why is it bad for your skin?
Unless you stay indoors all day, or completely shield your body from the sun, chances are you're exposed to IR radiation on a daily basis. IR radiation comes from the sun, just like UVA and UVB radiation.
Clinical studies on the effects of IR radiation on the skin are still in their infancy (when compared to UVA/UVB studies), but early research indicates that IR radiation may play a significant role in skin damage and skin aging.
The trouble with IR radiation is that it feels good - literally.
IR radiation is what gives you that warm, fuzzy feeling when you're exposed to sunlight. A recent study (disclaimer: the information on the linked page is highly technical, and may be difficult to understand for those without a medical background) indicates that IR radiation may be linked to accelerated skin damage and aging.
According to the study, IR radiation is capable of penetrating the skin far deeper than UVA/UVB radiation, and can increase the internal temperature of your skin beyond normal levels. Because of these and other factors, the study argues that IR radiation is capable of speeding up collagen breakdown, accelerating the appearance of skin aging, and contributing to significant skin damage.
The study's conclusion states that:
"...in addition to sunscreen to block the effects of UV, novel strategies to block IR- and heat-induced skin aging need to be developed to prevent skin aging more completely."
