Avoid the Winter Chills! Tips to Cure Dry Winter Skin

​For most of us the cold, dry days of winter really do a number on our skin. Dry and cracked skin is something most people spend the entire winter fighting off. If you are in a particularly cold climate you spend the majority of the winter going from the outside temperatures being anywhere from the teens to subzero, to a warm house or car. That drastic change in temperature dries out the skin even more. If you are suffering from dry skin this winter check out these tips to get you skin feeling soft, silky skin all winter long:

-Moisturize More. It may sound simple, but you would be surprised how many people don’t moisturize. The best moisturizers to use for dry skin shouldn’t contain chemicals or fragrances because that can be drying to your skin. The best natural skin care ingredients you should look in your moisturizer are coconut, olive, or almond oil as they are all non-clogging and will also nourish your skin. Stay away from water-based moisturizers, they will just leave the product sitting on your skin and make you look greasy. 

-Stay Hydrated. Just because you are not basking in the hot summer sun, doesn’t mean you don’t need to be drinking plenty of water. We spend a lot of time in front of a heater or fire during the winter months. That hot air blasting on your skin is sucking the moisture right out. Drink plenty of water to help your skin from cracking. 

-Take Cooler Showers. How many times have you run in from a cold winter day and hopped into a hot shower. All that hot water dries out your skin. Turn down the temperature a bit or, at the very least, take shorter showers. Also, make sure to moisturize after your shower. 

-Nourish Your Skin. Not only do you want soft skin but you also want healthy, happy skin. Look for products that will nourish your skin by utilizing some of mother natures powerful fruits and vitamins. Improve your skin's texture by using products with high levels of antioxidants. Some beneficial topical  antioxidants for the skin are the same as the antioxidants that we eat in our diet everyday such as: blueberry, papaya, coconut, almond, Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Vitamin E and Ginseng.
