Fall is in full swing, but with the heat reaching over 90 degrees here in Los Angeles this week, it seems like we are still in the heat of summer. If you love autumn, like me, and are looking for a great place to enjoy the season, a quick fall getaway to Maine may be the perfect spot!
There is nothing like fall in Maine. The roads are lined with trees displaying vibrant red, orange and yellow leaves. The crisp air makes for great outdoor activities. And there are plenty of fall celebrations and events happening throughout out the state that can make for a memorable weekend! Here are just a few that are worth checking out.
Harvestfest & Kidsfest (10/14-10/17):
Located in the beautiful costal community of York, Maine, Harvestfest is a celebration fall for all ages. This festival includes a variety of activities, live bands, and many other activities. With over 150 food and craft vendors there is no shortage of excitement. There is also a music festival and a guided tour of York which takes you to historical landmarks including Boon Island Lighthouse. Native American heritage is also celebrated with a pow-wow and traditional dance performances. Kidsfest will keep your children busy all weekend with a variety of kids games, crafts, special entertainment and pumpkin stroll!

Foliage Food & Wine Festival (10/4-10/14):
For two weeks the town of Blue Hills, famous for its blueberries, celebrates fall with it’s annual Foliage Food & Wine Festival. Restaurants from the surrounding communities gather to sample some of their most popular Maine dishes. Therer is also a chowder contest that you won’t want to miss! What could be better than great food, chowder, and wine surrounded by spectacular foliage?!

Harvest on the Harbor (10/24-10/27):
Located in the historic city of Portland, Harvest on the Harbor is a three day event celebrating the very important harvest season in the state of Maine. This celebration is all about trying gourmet foods and wine served by some of the best chefs from around the world. Located in the beautiful “Old Port” section of the city, this a great place to take in all that fall has to offer. There are many boutique shops in the Old Port area so be prepared for some strolling through the hilly cobblestone streets. There are also many beautiful small towns around the area that are worth checking out if you really want to get that New England fall feeling.
